A Teapot in a Tempest
Dear Faith Family,
"Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God," (James 1:19-20)
I'm a little teapot,
Short and stout,
Here is my handle
Here is my spout
When I get all steamed up,
Hear me shout,
Tip me over and pour me out!
Are you starting to feel like a teapot in a tempest? Like you are being tossed up and down? Like you could just shout? Just when it looked like the corona tsunami was losing stream, another wave of unrest is crashing all around us!
James calls these trials. And in the midst of the waves James penned his letter. So what does he say? What are we supposed to do in this tempest?
James checks the anchor and hoists the sail in James 1:19: be quick eared, slow mouthed, and long fused.
But what are we supposed to listen to? So many voices. So much anger. If you look back at verse 18 and ahead to verses 21 and 22 (go ahead and read the whole chapter) you'll discover that verse 19 is sandwiched between the Word of God. The Word of God, alone, brings stability and peace and direction at sea.
Listen to His Word and do what it says.
But why? Why quick eared, slow mouthed, and long fused? Well, because the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
Will you join with me in praying for the mercy of God? He's the only one who can calm the teapot in the tempest.
