Good Medicine

good

Dear Faith Family,

A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones, Proverbs 17:22.

Ever since my son installed a Ring doorbell, I have been researching the idea of installing one at my own front door.  It records a video anytime it senses motion.

Well, I noticed that the doorbell that has been on our house for many years was cracked.  So, instead of investing in another “regular” doorbell, I decided that it was time to purchase a Ring.

It was kind of a “Tim, the toolman, Taylor moment” for me.  I was excited.  It arrived.  I installed it.  It actually works!  And then one night a storm erupted.  The wind was blowing.

Concerned about the cushions on our front porch furniture, I descended the stairs, opened the front door, and disappeared around the corner to pick up the cushions.  Rather than waste an extra trip, I decided to carry all three cushions and four pillows inside in one fell swoop.

Before I rounded the corner, one of the rocking chairs leapt out and kicked one of my toes.  Attempting to recover from the onslaught of the rocking chair, cushions in toe, (at this point the cushions were “strategically” located in front of me so as to cut off my forward vision – the direction that I was walking!) I rounded the corner.

The geranium, complete with wooden planter, had tactically positioned itself so as to make direct contact with my left shin.  I went one way, cushions went another way, and Ring recorded it all!

At some point, after I came somewhat to my senses, I realized that I had a Ring doorbell.  I could watch my own personal AHV!  So I did.  I, in fact, watched it multiple times.  Each time I watched the video I laughed harder.  So, I decided that I would share it with Cyndi.  We laughed, and we’ve laughed, and we’re even laughing now.  I’d say I got my money’s worth.

So why tell you that story?  Well, a joyful or cheerful heart is good medicine.  Where are you delighting yourself in the Lord?  I’ve discovered something else about joy, cheer.  It is contagious.  Share God’s goodness with someone else today.  Don’t just look for God’s delight.  Share it.

In His love,
Pastor Karl
