In The Fullness Of Time

Devotional 10.12.22

Dear Faith Family,

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons, (Galatians 4:4-5).

My wife with her buggy all loaded with care,
And me with no purpose but just to be there.

When what to my wandering eyes did appear?
A give away drawing for anyone near!

Alas I had purpose to occupy me,
So sign up I did and then let it be.

Frankly, I simply forgot about that little “sign up”.  Time dissolved the memory of it.  I was just thankful at the time for something to do other than watch our grocery bill escalate.

Four hundred years.  Silence.  For years God filled up history with the 39 books of the Old Testament.  And then?  Silence.  Four hundred years of it.  On this October day consider yet another revolution around the sun in silence.  No new word.  Just another day.

It was days later.  I don’t know how many.  An unrecognized phone number was scooped up by my phone and quickly escorted to its proper spam file.  Oh, and there was a voice mail too.  I listened to a representative of a grocery store tell me that I had won the drawing, a Ninja blender and smoothie maker!  Oh yea, I remember!  Wait, you drew my name?!

Consider yet another revolution around the sun.  The phone rings.  The message is sent:  For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His Name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, (Isaiah 9:6).  He’s here!  Oh yea, I remember!

We are currently 73 days, 12 hours, 17 minutes, 43 seconds and counting until the celebration of the coming of Jesus.  Did you forget?  Has time dissolved the memory of the birth of Jesus?  Maybe the holiday season has been downgraded into something worth forgetting?  Maybe, on the other hand, the fullness of time gripped you all the way to your soul?

Let’s not wait some 73 days to celebrate.  For each of those 73 days to come, how about meditating on one sin shattering difference the coming of Jesus made.

Adopted,
Pastor Karl
