Longing for Him

Longing

Dear Faith Family,

But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself. (Philippians 3:20-21)

There he was perched on an oak limb just above the deck in our back yard.  I heard that they had been seen in the area.  And sure enough, yesterday morning was my first sighting of a hummingbird.  (And yes, I filled up the hummingbird feeder and hung it on its hook above the deck.)  I can’t wait until he and his buddies find their place at the feeder.  What a circus!

Just behind him and to the right are the seedlings striving to establish their roots in the rich soil beneath them.  I love watching them grow.  I can’t wait to enjoy the tomatoes, peppers, squash, and eggplant.

And Friday?  Well, that’s yet another opportunity to hear the gobble of a wild turkey.  I can’t wait!

They all mark the changing of the season.  Winter and its frosty nights are warming up.  Spring is in the air.  What a great idea, seasons.  I know, some of us have said that we would like springtime all year round.  Or others, I wish it were summer all year.

Truth be told, I think the changing of the seasons gives us something to look forward to.  And seasons keep us looking ahead.  Can’t wait until the warm temperatures arrive.  Can’t wait until the temperatures cool off.  We keep looking ahead.  And I believe that seasons help us to do just that.

Keep looking ahead.  You’re just passing through.  Your citizenship is in heaven.  And, so we await the return of Jesus!  We expect, we long for, we wait for His second coming.  So, live like you’re on your way home rather than living like this is home.

Longing for Him,
Pastor Karl
