Dear Faith Family,

11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! 13 But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.  (2 Peter 3:11-13)

The STOP sign at the far end of Rauch Metz was more abrupt than normal.  Beyond the STOP sign was the foreboding I-26.  Traffic was at a standstill and lined up as far as eye could see.  Now what?!  The lunch appointment at Harbison might as well have been in Texas!  I clicked my heels together three times and wished to be at McAlister’s Deli by the mall.  All I could see was cars!  No deli.  What to do?

With a flash of genius, I decided to turn right toward Broad River Road.  Yeh, that’ll fix it.  Oh, wait.  Somebody moved Broad River Road and put up a parking lot!  Next idea?  Turn left onto Broad River Road, across the bridge overlooking the evil I-26 below.  Turn right onto the west bound I-26 entrance ramp, left onto Julius Richardson Road, right onto West Shady Grove Road, right onto S-40-80, left onto Old Tamah Road, right onto Koon Road, left onto Western Lane, right onto Broad River Road, left onto the east bound entrance ramp of I-26, merge right onto exit ramp for Lake Murray Blvd, left onto Columbiana Drive, and left into McAlister’s Deli with 30 seconds to spare!  Phew!

That’s what I call hastening a lunch appointment.  But how do we hasten the return of Christ Jesus?  I mean, only God knows and controls the end of time.  So, what could we possibly do to hasten His return?  Certainly we can pray for Jesus’ return: Father, hallowed be Your Name.  Your kingdom come.  (Luke 11:2)  He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!  (Revelation 22:20).

And the gospel must first be proclaimed to all nations.  (Mark 13:10)  It would seem then that a right turn onto the road of telling others the good news about Jesus (with life and lip) would help to hasten the return of Christ.  Aren’t you ready for Jesus to come back?  Aren’t you ready for Jesus to make all things right?  Aren’t you ready for Jesus to remove evil and the evil one?

Who’s hearing your good news?

Looking up,
