Something to be Thankful For

Something

Dear Faith Family,

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward, Psalm 127:3.

Twenty-nine years ago today our precious Jesse weighed in at 9 pounds 8.5 ounces!  We were ecstatic!  As we gathered around our son we sang “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”.  God had blessed us with a healthy baby boy!

Can I share with you a little side story?  My brother’s son was born the day before Jesse.  The two boys were across the hall from each other in the hospital.  What a celebration!  I had shared with my wife that I wanted a “beefer, baby, boy”.  (I know now that was inconsiderate seeing that she would be the one in labor and delivery.)  Throw in the mix that whole brotherly competition thing.  Well, you can get the picture.

At this point you may be asking yourself, how much did your brother’s son weigh?  Who won?  OK: the guys are asking the question.  The ladies, maybe not so much.  I think Jesse took his cousin by 8.5 ounces for the win!

I told you it was a side story.  What’s really important is the precious gift that our Father entrusted to us twenty-nine years ago.  Wow!  I’m overwhelmed even as I consider the gracious nature of our heavenly Father.

Here’s the thing.  We tend to pray for our children.  We ask God for His protection.  We ask God to provide.  Don’t forget to thank God for His gift, our children.  God has blessed us not only with biological children, but spiritual children as well.  Thank God for the children who come up for sermon sac.  Thank God for our youth.  Thank God for our college students.  Thank God for our grown children.

Thanking God for Jesse,
Pastor Karl
