The Heavens Declare the Glory of God!

the heavens

Dear Faith Family,

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork, (Psalm 19:1).

“So I didn’t realize this was happening” were the words that I received in a text from my wife today.  It was preceded by a map of Tropical Storm Bertha even as she pounded the coast of Charleston this morning.

How did I miss that?!

Isn’t it interesting how something or someone can steal our attention so completely that we find it hard to see anything else?

Cliff Bedell, a former professor at CIU, was focused on his class in the chapel.  At some point he looked up and asked: “Has that been there the whole time?”  He was speaking about a weather balloon (insert BIG here) hanging from the ceiling of the chapel next to him above the platform.

Packing the promise of two to four inches of rain and forty to fifty mile an hour winds, Charleston experienced the declaration of the glory of God.

I confess, when I read Psalm 19:1 I tend to envision blue skies, puffy white clouds, the sun, the moon, and the stars.  But what about the power of God in the storm?  Don’t the heavens declare His bigness?  He can distribute more water in a single storm than my sprinkler system can handle in a lifetime.

Clouds act as a dimmer switch hiding the intensity of the sun.  The circular rotation of the winds can make you dizzy as you gaze at the clouds.  All the while they’re declaring the glory of our great God!

As your attention is pulled this way and that, don’t forget to look up and listen.  The heavens are declaring the glory of your God!

Listen up,
Pastor Karl
