Devotional 10.29.25

Dear Faith Family,

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things, (Philippians 4:8).

“As it often happeth that the very face sheweth the mind walking a pilgrimage, in such wise that, not without some note and reproach of such vagrant mind, other folk suddenly say to them, (wait for it…) ‘A penny for your thought.’”

Those words can be found in Four Last Things, Sir Thomas More’s book, published posthumously in 1522. In other words, a wise man has fallen silent and in order to garner his wisdom, money is offered, (todayifoundout.com).

So, that got me thinking about what we’re thinking about and how much what we’re thinking about is actually worth thinking about.  Are you with me?

Here’s the question?  What are you thinking about?  Is your mind occupied with who God is, what God’s done, what God is up to in His world?  Are you thinking about who you are in Christ?  Are you counting the fruit of the Spirit that He’s developing in your life?  Are you thinking about all of the blessings that God has invested in you?

Or are you focusing on your failures?  Maybe you’re hung up on other people’s failures – like how they’ve wronged you?  Are you thinking about the gifts that you don’t have that you wish you did?  Is fear holding your thoughts captive?  Throughout the day what captures the attention of your thoughts?

A penny for your thoughts?  I’m praying that today, your thoughts are worth a lot more than a penny!

That’s a lot to think about,

Pastor Karl
