Dear Faith Family,
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them, (Ephesians 2:10).
On the far right it holds a place of prominence. No other clock adorns the family room above the fireplace. Why that clock? Why such attention? My wife’s grandfather built that clock. It works. It works at more than just telling time. That it does do. And in its working, it remains as a testimony of his handiwork. Each chiming of the quarter hour calls out for us to remember. It draws attention to someone beyond itself.
Paul informs us that our work is not an end in itself. Instead, our good works spotlight the One whose workmanship we are. Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven, (Matthew 5:16). You are handcrafted by Almighty God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). Remember the “let Us make man in Our own image”? They (the “us”), one God, created you and, in Christ Jesus, redeemed you on purpose. He has work for you to do. You are His workmanship, a trophy of His grace.
Here's a thing. You’re off to Wally World (Walmart) to purchase a new hose for your upcoming spring garden (you’re a planner, ok? getting ready ahead of time). You’re on a mission. If your only mission is a garden hose, you’ve missed the whole workmanship thing. He handcrafted you in His image and by His grace in order to display Himself through you! Is this making sense?
As His workmanship, you have the privilege of showing off your God to an employee by how you treat that employee. By speaking to someone in the store. By sharing a smile. By offering someone a helping hand. By telling another person about Jesus.
Are you starting to see the picture? As His workmanship, you hold a prominent position in His Kingdom – He calls you child of God (John 1:12)! And you work! He’s given you life and purpose to practice His calling in your life that others might see Him.
Let your light shine!
