Devotional 5.29.24

Dear Faith Family,

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand, Isaiah 41:10.

It`s a kids ride. Right? I mean my brother in law was asking his daughter, age seven,  if she wanted to ride. No big deal, right? Standing in line, we couldn't really see the ride itself. Not a problem. What could possibly go wrong, right?

First clue.  Waiting in line meant climbing multiple sets of stairs. At the top, somewhere just shy of the sun, where we boarded there was a massive unmoving harness that felt a bit like a stockade, a second clue.  Before boarding we had to sacrifice everything that wasn't permanently attached to our bodies. Not sure but I think that was another clue. We were locked and loaded. Did I tell you that the train tracks we were on exited the building and disappeared. The reason they disappeared is because they dropped straight down! Didn't know that. Do now.

Turns out the little car of four turned every which way but loose. And for that we're thankful! (The part where it didn't turn loose.) I was so busy holding on to my glasses that I only caught glimpses of the sky and the ground as my life flashed before my eyes. My only comfort was tethered to the security of the tracks. They had proven faithful for the last group, and the one before that, and before that.... Surely I was secure even when I felt otherwise.

Here's the point. Life, sometimes fittingly, feels like the Time Traveler ride at Silver Dollar City. Can you relate? Just when things seem stable, change flips us upside down and even backwards. Things break. Sickness happens. Life is short. Circumstances change.

At those precise moments the security of the tracks is magnified! Even when I couldn't see the tracks (moving at the speed of light) they were secure. If He's anything, our sovereign God is secure! You are still on His tracks. He isn't absent. He's not asleep. He's present. Attentive. And holding fast to us.

Trying to be still and know that He is God,
