I Met Judah Yesterday!

Devotional 10.18.23

Dear Faith Family,

For You formed my inward parts; You knitted me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.  Wonderful are Your works; my soul knows it very well.  My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.  Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in Your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them, (Psalm 139:13-16).

Beneath that soft, rich skin everything was working.  Only 24 hours old.  His tiny little heart was beating.  His newly formed lungs were respirating.  His miniature hands and feet were learning their movements.  Only God knows the thoughts that entertained his mind. Cherry-red cheeks formed a megaphone for his precious little voice experimenting with its newfound powers.

His introduction into this busy world landed him safely in the arms of his mother.  There he lay resting peacefully, unconcerned with the cares of this world.  Engulfed in the love of his family was this precious little person.  That little man was the object of everyone’s unmerited favor.

As I left the parking lot, the emotional response surprised me a bit.  For a moment, if but for just a moment, I was still and knew that God was God!  There before me wrapped up in a soft blanket and covered with a warm hat was the very image of Almighty God.  I beheld His image!  Just let that sink in for a moment.

Judah looked like His heavenly Father!  The peace of the presence of God was written all over his face.  The heart of the love of God filled that very room.  Even the grace of God was there to be observed knowing that God’s favor rested on this little person bringing him into this unearned heritage of faith.

I know, I know, time will race on, that peace might be challenged, that love might not always be so easily recognized, and that grace might feel far away.  Sometimes life has a way of disguising or overlooking the image of God in others.

Be still.  Observe the life of another.  Look for the image of God on display in the life someone around you.  Who’s around you right now?  Family?  Friends?  Other students?  Coworkers?  How do they, each one, uniquely reflect the image of God?  You do know that everybody, that’s right everybody, is made in the image of God.  Maybe sometimes we just aren’t looking hard enough?

Thankful I met Judah yesterday,
Pastor Karl
