In the Morning

in the morning

Dear Faith Family,

Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days, (Psalm 90:14).

He once described himself as, a “poetico-trampo-geologist-botanist and ornithologist-naturalist etc. etc.!!!!”  John Muir remains one of California’s most important historical personalities and is generally still known today as one of the fathers of our National Parks.  You may recognize a popular quote of his: “The mountains are calling and I must go.” (thebasinandrange.com)

My bride has adopted that calling and made it her own.  She just celebrated her 29ttttthhhhhh birthday and, yup, you guessed it.  The mountains are calling so she must go!  And so, here we are “resting” for a couple of days.

Twas the night of our arrival, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The truck was unpacked to the house with great care,
In hopes that sweet rest soon would be there.

When outside on the window there arose such a clatter,
I rolled out of bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I not like a flash,
Slid back the curtains and looked at the sash.

The moon was still up and there was no snow
It still wasn’t light enough outside don’t you know.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a couple of red birds, cardinals I did hear!

Those cardinals were knocking on our windows.  Around the house where we are staying (on Woodpecker Lane no less!) are multiple bird feeders.  We are supposed to bring in the bird feeders so that “Randy the Racoon” won’t eat the bird seed at night.  Like a good tenant I brought the bird feeders inside.  It was as if the cardinals were hungry and wanted me to get up and put out their feeders!  Apparently no one told them that we were on vacation and that this is not a restaurant!

They gave me pause for thought.  Is it God that satisfies us in the morning?  Or is He an afterthought?  Do we rise each morning in search of His steadfast love?  You know like how He feeds us.  Like how He gives us the very breath we breathe.  Like how He graciously surrounds us each day with the gift of relationships.

I want to aggressively pursue His steadfast love today.  You?

In the morning,
Pastor Karl
