Dear Faith Family, 

Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!  And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting! (Psalm 139:23-24) 

Well, it’s that time of year.  The “bug man” just came and performed our termite inspection.  What was he looking for?  No, not money!  He was looking for any termite activity.  And he was looking for any conditions that would be termite friendly.  For instance, he has a probe that he inserted into the floor joists under the house that measures the moisture content.  Apparently moisture is a termite magnet. 

In either case, there is a remedy.  If he found termites, a battle would ensue.  If he found termite friendly conditions, he would suggest a reconditioning.  Thankfully, he found neither.  Here’s a thing.  Termites are subterranean.  That means you may not see them until there is considerable damage done.  Another less destructive option is an inspection. 

Isn’t that what David is requesting in Psalm 139?  Isn’t he asking God to dig beneath the surface of his life in search of any subterranean heart condition that needs a reconditioning?  What heart conditions might prove “termite friendly” in our lives?  Fear?  Fear can powerfully and quickly motivate us down destructive paths.  Insecurity?  Insecurities can encourage us to look for love in all the wrong places.  Selfishness?  Selfishness can inspire us to live for all the wrong reasons. 

Here’s another thing.  Termite queens (so I’ve read) can lay thousands of eggs every day!  Yikes!  My point?  Sin, and even the conditions of our heart, left unchecked can very rapidly wreak much destructive havoc. 

So, gather round the Word of God and invite the God of the Word to perform a heart inspection today.  Here’s the cool part.  He doesn’t just point out the problems and leave a bill for His services.  No, He performs the reconditioning.
