Dear Faith Family,

Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near, (Isaiah 55:6).

If you had wandered into the Fellowship Hall this past Sunday night, you would have discovered your pastor digging through the trash can in the kitchen.  Hey, don’t judge me.  All I know is that when I arrived on the church campus on Sunday morning, I had my keys.  And, when I departed my keys were nowhere to be found!  Well, I certainly did not know where to find them.

Now, be honest, some of you have already begun the search in your mind.  Did you check where you were sitting?  Did you look in the lost and found?  Did you check your pockets?  Did you look in the car?  What about your office?  Did you leave them in your desk?  Yes.  Yes.  Yes.  Yes.  Yes.  And, no.

I looked everywhere I could think of and still no keys.  No, they weren’t in the trash can in the kitchen!  Ugh!  Monday, no keys.  Tuesday, still no keys.  Wednesday, a new set of keys.  Old set of keys?  Still missing!

Isn’t it interesting how something so small (4 keys and a key fob on a ring) can capture so much attention, so much energy, and so much time?!  So here’s the question:  What are you looking for?  What is capturing your attention, your energy, and your time?

Isaiah tells us to seek the Lord.  The next verse seems to lend some wisdom to our search.  If we in our own sinful self are following our own way and if we in our own sinful self are pursing our own thoughts, we won’t rightly be seeking the Lord.

Here’s truth.  The intensity of the search is directly dependent upon the belief that the object can be found.  I’m not digging through anymore trash cans today.  It’s Wednesday.  Interpreted:  belief diminished.

Good news: “He may be found!”  I know.  I know.  You’re still worried about my keys.  Don’t be.  There are more pressing finds.  Like what are you finding out about your God today?  What is He teaching you about His thoughts today?  What is He teaching you about His ways today?  Hint:  Keep looking in His Word – the Bible.  Keep looking in His world – creation.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts, (Isaiah 55:8-9).

PS – still thinking about the keys?  Apparently, someone dropped them into Michelle’s basket of children’s stuff.  Search complete!  Just as well.  I’ve got more important things to look for.
